Making Monsters and two day super tournament on Grand Lake

This week’s “Outdoor Oklahoma” television show was a year in the making, and the effort should be worth the wait. This episode called, “Making Monsters!” gives viewers a behind the scenes look at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s efforts to produce trophy largemouth bass in Oklahoma’s waters.

Beginning last fall, the TV show crew followed the process of how Florida largemouth bass are produced at the Durant State Fish Hatchery. The program provides a fascinating look at the process that culminates with bass fingerlings being stocked in an Oklahoma lake.

This special “Outdoor Oklahoma” episode airs 8:00 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 7, on OETA.

The 2014 Walmart BFL season continues with a two-day super tournaments on Sept. 13-14 with a stop at Grand Lake. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500.

The bass fishing on Grand Lake is expected to be good. The bass are expected to be caught both deep and shallow around Grand Lake’s abundant rock and wood cover. Deeper bass will be relating to bait or offshore cover like rock or bush piles. The shallow fish figure to be around docks or shoreline wood. Jigs, topwater baits, Texas-rigged soft plastics, crankbaits and umbrella rigs are all expected to be productive baits. The winner will likely need to bring about 30 pounds of bass across the scale in this two-day event.
